Sunsets and Symphonies

EMFEB’s third tour to Jersey involved the complete EMFEB Chamber Orchestra. This tour had a distinctly ‘al fresco’ feel, and focussed on celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Mozart’s birth. The tour opened with several small ensembles performing on the beach at Greve-de-Lecq, in commemoration of the Summer Solstice. A Summer Schools Concert followed, in which over three hundred children enjoyed an introduction to all the families of the orchestra. The full orchestra performed that evening on a cliff-top overlooking a spectacular sunset in a concert entitled ‘Sunset Symphony’, which culminated in a performance of Mozart’s last symphony, the ‘Jupiter’. Over five hundred attended, despite the bracing wind! The following day, ninety young singers from the Island-Wide Girls and Boys choirs joined the orchestra the for a truly riotous performance of Alan Simmond’s The Olympics!, narrated by BBC Radio Jersey’s Joe Pignatiello. The tour concluded with a concert entitled Amadues – The Story of Mozart, in which the fascinating story of Mozart’s life was narrated, and bought to life with movements from his Symphonies, Piano Concertos, Operas, and Chamber Music. A memorable end to an all-embracing tour. This tour was sponsored by the Jersey Arts Trust, Jersey Instrumental Music Service, and Jersey Tourism.
